Here are 7 Edinburgh Wedding Venues We Love – some right in the heart of the city, others just a short drive to the nearby countryside.

We regularly provide Wedding Entertainment for couples at the following venues and fell in love with them instantly.

We haven’t ranked them because one simply can’t play favourites with something so personal and subjective. Instead, we’ve listed them by distance from a staple of the Edinburgh city centre skyline: Edinburgh Castle.

1. The Hub, 289 feet

  • The Hub Table Settings

Barely a minute’s walk from the Castle, The Hub is truly a part of Edinburgh in both style and history.

Built in the 19th century and intended as a General Assembly for the Church of Scotland, it was oddly never officially consecrated as an actual Church.

Fortunately, it possesses all of the architectural flourishes of a great Church that make for an excellent wedding venue: vaulted ceilings in the main hall, beautiful stained-glass windows a top a grand staircase, and a tall, tall spire that can be seen from all over the city.

It’s also a ‘Hub’ for the Edinburgh Festival, even hosting actor/broadway star Alan Cummings’ ‘Club Cummings’ in 2016.

2. Signet Library, 0.3 miles

  • Signet Lower Library
  • Signet Lower Library Seating
  • Signet Upper Library
  • Signet Upper Library Lighting
  • Signet Wedding Party
  • Signet Wedding Table Layout

The Signet Library is right next door to St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile. This makes it an ideal reception location for those getting married in St Giles.

Alternatively, the Signet Library is more than equipped to handle both ceremony and reception – it’s Lower Library features a long aisle and happily hosts weddings of any denomination. It’s is grand yet intimate at the same time. A Grand Staircase leads to the Upper Library, which is a perfect reception area with a capacity of up to 220 guests, and has enough space for dinner and dancing.

Known to some as “Edinburgh’s Sistine Chapel“, Mansfield Traquair is a uniquely breathtaking wedding venue. The architecture alone is incredible, but it’s the colourful interior design and paintings on the walls and ceilings that really make this old church something special to behold. See for yourself in the pictures above.

4. Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club, 9 miles

  • Dalmahoy Entrance
  • Dalmahoy Rear
  • Dalmahoy Bedchamber
  • Dalmahoy Restaurant
  • St Mary's Church
  • Dalmahoy Golf Course
  • Dalmahoy Golf Course

Our first wedding venue on the list outside of Edinburgh is only a 20 minute drive from the centre and 10 minutes from the airport, and there are even views to the Castle from the right spot on one of it’s two Golf Courses. Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is a romantic Scottish Manor House dating back to the 1300s. It’s a resort with 200+ hotel rooms, restaurant and bar, and pool facilities. Also located in the grounds is St Mary’s Church, an old, stone Church that has a wonderfully intimate atmosphere for wedding ceremonies.

5. Barnbougle Castle, 9.4 miles

The newest Edinburgh wedding venue on our list – despite being a 13th century castle, Barnbougle Castle only recently opened for weddings and events in spring of 2019 after being closed for 90 years. It’s dramatically set on the shore in South Queensferry which makes for some fantastic photos. The Castle is for exclusive use, meaning the wedding party has a 60-foot banquet hall and the rest of the castle all to themselves!

6. Dundas Castle, 10.5 miles

Vows Awards Winner two years running (2018 and 2019) for Best Scottish Wedding Venue, Dundas Castle is a massive country estate for exclusive wedding hire, with everything you need in one place. Have the ceremony in a medieval tower (the 600 year old Auld Keep), drinks in the Armoury or on the Front Lawn with the Castle as a perfect photo backdrop. Then dinner in the Stag Chamber and dancing in the Pavilion.

7. Borthwick Castle, 12.4 miles

Borthwick Castle was built in 1430 as a fortress, and it is believed that Mary Queen of Scots stayed here in a room that is now named after her. Borthwick has 12 luxurious bedrooms and a number of reception rooms, including the Great Hall, where the stone walls surround a banquet table in the style of the Scottish Kings of old. It’s recently undergone massive yet tasteful refurbishment to the oppulent interior and for exclusive hire only. You’ll be well looked after by this dedicated Wedding Team.
