A look back to a Midsummer Gin Festival, to the warmer days that already seem so far behind us, as it seems the colder ones are fast approaching.

At the height of this past summer, right around the summer Solstice, Reel Time’s Master Gin tasters went off to Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa for a weekend filled with gin fun!

The Perfect Serves

The weekend kicked off with the “perfect serves” drinks reception and a BBQ dinner. Guests were offered a French 75 gin cocktail as a welcome drink before introducing 3 of our favourite gin and tonic combos.

A classic G&T; a balanced gin with a well-rounded sweetness garnished with pink grapefruit.

Floral yet fruity; a perfect midsummer libation garnished with orange and cucumber

Refreshing and crisp; clean, sweet, citrus with a herbaceous twist. Garnished with lemon and thyme.

On Saturday we started the afternoon with a cocktail masterclass where guests learnt to do 3 gin-based cocktails. They each had a cocktail set to try cocktail making for themselves; we created a raspberry refresher, negroni and a bramble.

Gin & Food Pairing

To finish off the fantastic weekend, guests had a 5-course dinner with a gin to match each. And to finish it off we had coffee and gin-infused tablet.

Guests left with a lovely gift bag to remember the weekend, it included a booklet with all the drinks served and an easy to follow guide to make the cocktails at home. A stainless-steel straw, a tea bag with botanicals, miniature gin and tonic amongst other things.

Loch Fyne’s General manager Marc Gardner said:

It’s hard to say what I’m looking forward to most. Executive Head Chef James Sharp has put together an incredible menu. I’ll keep most of it a surprise, but just to say the hay-smoked venison dish is something of a showstopper. But then, the gin line up is also stellar. If you ask me, Kintyre Gin is the one to get your hands on. The flavour created by the unique botanicals grown on their estate is outstanding and it’s also produced using renewable energy and local water. I expect we’ll learn a lot more facts about gin flavours, production and pairing too, during the tutored tastings with our gin experts, Timna Mall and Chris White. So which part will be the best? Well, I guess you’ll have to be judge of that.

All in all, it was a fantastic gin festival weekend surrounded by stunning views of Loch Fyne!
